The Gerbot farm, managed in partnership with ANA-CEN Ariège for around ten years on 100 hectares, has been the subject of several natural area management and restoration actions at the start of 2024:
- Light cleaning of a water source and restoration of an old adjoining water trough, then protection of the water source by a fixed fence;
- Maintenance of the wetland, one of the site ponds and the ditch by clearing brush and exporting the organic material into composting plots;
- Restoration and maintenance of a grazed meadow;
- Maintenance of the watering system put in place in 2022 following the protection of the stream running through the site, and creation of additional accesses for livestock.
These natural area management and restoration actions are carried out in accordance with the species’ biological cycle, here in winter, when most overwinter. The objective of these actions is to maintain open environments (meadows in particular) and the functionality of wetlands in order for all these environments to meet agricultural needs and to take into account the biodiversity that depends on them.
